Way back when, our two founder brothers chatted to an elderly gent in their local pub who mentioned to them that in years gone by, there was once a microbrewery in the tiny village in which they grew up. No one knew precisely where.

Inspired, we started brewing in our cellar. Developing our first beer under a cloak of secrecy, we decided that if we ever set up a brewery, we’d call it Encoder.

We love lager. It is tricky to make with a small brew kit but nevertheless was the first beer we made, and we started to share it with a few people.

We invested in a bigger, shinier brew kit in a bigger premises in the heart of the countryside and sold our first batch of beer. Then the second. And the third…we had a beer that people loved drinking.

Fast forward two years, we now make 8 beers in a state-of-the-art facility, including a range of refreshing lagers, IPAs and a porter, picking up international awards along the way.
